BBQ image Who: New UC Berkeley admits from Michigan and Cal alumni

What: BBQ in the park

Where: Island Park, Shelter A, 1450 Island Dr., Ann Arbor

When: Saturday July 19th 4pm-7pm

Why: To welcome our newest Golden Bears to the Cal family.

The California Alumni Association, Michigan Club is hosting a Welcome Reception for all new University of California, Berkeley first-year students from Michigan. We have scheduled a BBQ to welcome them to the university, share our experiences, and provide them with information that can help them succeed as they make their transition to the university. Besides providing beef and brew (non-alcoholic) we hope to provide these student and their families an opportunity to meet each other and network before embarking on their undergraduate careers.

We invite you to attend this BBQ to meet with these seven students. We have encouraged both the students and their families to attend.

Please check back for updates as July 19th approaches.

If you are interested in attending or have some comments/ideas you’d like to share, leave a comment!

Viewing Party: Men’s Basketball vs OSU

Today we had a small, but entertaining viewing party for the Men’s Basketball game against Oregon State.  Besides enjoying a thrilling Cal victory, we also discussed ideas for future events.  At this point, we have scheduled Men’s Basketball viewing parties for the following dates:

Saturday February 2 @ 6:00pm
Cal at Washington

Sunday February 24 @ 9:00pm
Cal at Stanford

We also discussed several very interesting ideas outside of sports, including seminars from UC Berkeley faculty members, joint Cal-Stanford picnics, and musical events at the University of Michigan.  Once again, I’d like to emphasize that we are VERY intersted in YOUR ideas for events.  So please leave a comment and let us know what would bring you out.  In the meantime, enjoy these photos of happy Cal alums eating pita bread and brownies while watching bball.

Introducing the Officers…

We currently have three officers participating in the California Alumni Association Michigan Club. Lisa Guzman (’96) is the current President, Scott Moura (’06) the Treasurer, and Jovauna Currey (’07) the Communications Officer.

This is Lisa Guzman, the President. She is a current PhD student at the University of Michigan in Education. Her role as president is to oversee the development of the group, manage group officers, oversee group financial health, and serve as a liaison to CAA.

This is Scott Moura (the one that’s not Tedford), the Treasurer. He is a current PhD student at the University of Michigan in Mechanical Engineering. His role is to maintain accounting records that include expenditures, revenues, and reimbursement. He is also our website guru.

This is Jovauna Currey (again, the one that’s not Tedford), the Communications Officer. She is a recent grad from Cal and has moved to Michigan to live with Scott.  During her year off, she is working as a medical assistant before attending medical school in the fall (knock on wood). She is responsible for updating and maintaining the group’s CAA-hosted website, printed materials, fliers, e-newsletters, etc.

Hello world!
